Warm up with these DIY winter cocktails

The Christmas countdown has begun. You’ve decorated your living room with traditional ornaments, cascading ribbons and tiny Christmas trees to make it look warm and inviting for your guests and arranged for a barbecue in the French window. The many batches of mouth-melting chocolate cookies are on their way and so are the candies. Given that the holiday season is a time for heavy drinking, here are six easy breezy cocktail recipes you must try your hands on.

Christmas Cheer

60 ml bourbon whisky
60 ml apple juice
1 cinnamon stick
1 lime wedge

In a shaker glass filled with ice, pour the above ingredients and squeeze the lime. Shake well and strain into a stem glass. Garnish with a few apple slices and cinnamon stick.

Mistletoe Martini

60 ml vodka
60 ml orange juice
90 ml cranberry tea, chilled
1 tbsp lemon juice
3 tsp sugar

In a shaker glass filled with ice, pour the above ingredients and shake well. Strain into two chilled cocktail glasses.

Cherry Bombs

1 cup grenadine
1 litre clear citrus soda
18 cherries

Place two cups water in a medium saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add grenadine and blend. Pour the mixture into two ice cube trays and freeze until solid. Next, fill six glasses with grenadine ice cubes. Top with soda. Garnish with cherries, and serve.

Pomegranate and Orange Sangria

A bottle of red wine
1 cup brandy
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup cranberry juice
1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 orange, thinly sliced
1 cup pomegranate seeds
1 cinnamon stick

In a large pitcher, stir together the wine, brandy, pomegranate juice, cranberry juice and orange juice. Add orange slices, pomegranate seeds and cinnamon stick. Serve chilled with ice cubes.

Cranberry Margarita

Cranberry Margarita 

1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
3/4 cup fresh lime juice
3/4 cup tequila
1/2 cup orange-flavored liqueur, such as Cointreau or Triple Sec
Ice cubes

Stir all ingredients until they blend together. Then, serve over ice in sugar- or salt-rimmed glasses. Garnish with with fresh cranberries if available and lime wedges.

Christmas Tree Cocktail

90 ml pomegranate or cranberry juice
60 ml gin
30 ml sugar syrup
1 tsp lime juice
Fresh mint leaves
Pomegranate seeds and lime wheels for garnish

Muddle mint leaves with sugar syrup in a whisky glass. Then, add ice cubes, gin, juice, and lime juice. Stir, and garnish as seen in the image.
